It all depends on how well you know the many people and places referenced in this puzzle. If you're a music buff, cinephile, or a mixture of both, you'll probably sail right through. If, like me, your knowledge of those categories is lacking, you're going to have to rely on crosses to fill in many of this puzzle's longer answers. It was doable, but admittedly difficult. On the technical side, this was a fine puzzle. The clues ranged from good to excellent, and the answers were fitting. Being a Friday puzzle, there was a dearth of short answers and a plethora of long ones which forces solvers to either piece together the puzzle using knowledge of the subject matter or mining the few 'easy' answers for all they're worth. Say it Like You Mean It (12/07/2020)

Play it here first. (NYT subscription required) In the words of Hannibal from the A-Team, "I love it when a plan comes together." Today's puzzle is the epitome of such a phrase as seasoned solvers should have no problem flying through the clues to complete the grid. Don't take that as a slight to the author of this puzzle (Ms. Barbara Lin) or the editor. While not difficult in the least, today's puzzle is well put together with concise clueing, a nice mix of word lengths and a minimum of obscure words that may trip up novice solvers. There is little else to be said about the general fill of this puzzle. Some expected words in a Monday puzzle show up in the form of MEMO, INCA, OPEC, ACRE, AFRO , all of which include either 'E,' 'R' or 'A' the three most common letters found in crossword answers.
